JULY/AUGUST ISSUE

Posted by Editor On JULY - 18 - 2011

Time flies, can you believe we are already past the half year mark? Just the other day we welcomed the New Year with long lists of resolutions. Well, the year doesn’t feel so new anymore, it’s that time of the year when energy levels sink, we get sucked into the routine of life and many times become complacent. All these are symptoms of Mid Year blues.

MAY/JUNE ISSUE

Posted by Editor On JULY- 18 - 2011

Growing up, I was a ‘someday girl’. I had dreams of someday publishing a book, someday working for a newspaper, someday being an editor, someday. Until one day many years later I woke up to the realization that someday was today; the only assurance we have, not 2 years from now or tomorrow but today.

APRIL ISSUE

Posted by Editor On JULY - 18 - 2011

For some April habitually brings in to mind Spring; sunshine, blooming flowers, the green of trees and sliding into flip flops. For me, April is just April because luckily where I live the beauty of ‘Spring’ and getting high on Vitamin D is something I experience every day.

MARCH ISSUE

Posted by Editor On JULY - 18 - 2011

As I kid, one of my all time favorite TV shows was 'The Jefferson’s'. As I write this, the theme song is playing in my head. “Well we’re movin’ on up, to the east side, moving on up, to a deluxe apartment in the sky. Moving on up, to the east side, moving on up,we finally got a piece of the pie.

FEBRUARY ISSUE

Posted by Editor On JULY - 18 - 2011

February is a special month, apart from the red roses, boxes of chocolate, great deals and the romance, it’s also the month we celebrate the history and contributions of African American men and women to society in the name of Black History Month.

JANUARY ISSUE

Posted by Editor On JULY - 18- 2011

Happy New Year!Yes, I know I'm a little late on the wishes just like the way I'm late with our new January Issue but it's finally here. New year, new layout, new name, basically, new things. Its all about the new new! For all those who knew this blog as The Ladies Room, I now introduce you to AfroElle; a blog for women of afro-descent from all over the world.

DECEMBER ISSUE

Posted by Editor On JULY - 18 - 2011

The year has literally flown by, I can't believe it's already December. To many, December is a month of in depth self evaluation and stock taking; taking that walk down memory lane to see if you accomplished the goals you set at the beginning of the year. It's also about looking at your present to see what has worked for you or what you need to eliminate before you head on to the new year.

Fashion Inspiration: Christine Neptune

Posted by AfroElle On 7:03 AM

This month's fashion inspiration is 19 year old Christine Neptune, also known as Khristy-Joy. She is a Brooklyn girl; born and raised with a Guyanese background. The 5 feet 9 tall fashionista says she is in love with fashion and everything pertaining to fashion.

student at Lehman College in The Bronx, Christine is studying English with a minor of childhood education. She is also an intern at  "Hott Shotz Photography". Christine also has an athletic side which is her Track and Field career; 6 years and counting. Her specialities include the Pentathlon and the Heptathlon.

Lets Meet Her

What is your signature style?

I try to master the "boyfriend look". Baggy shirts, sweatshirts, men's button up's and such. I might not have a boyfriend but taking my brother's clothes work just as well. I like the mystery it brings behind it, people wonder and question me if I'm a tomboy or just ashamed of my shape. Trust me, that's not the case at all. I like the surprise on their face when I do decide to throw on a pair of pumps and a dress.

Whats your favourite accessory?
My favorite accessory has to be dramatic big rings. I love rings on my tiny hands so much, being that I keep my nails done in bright vibrant colors the rings just add all the spunk to my hands  and also my outfits.

Who is your celebrity fashion icon and why?
Oh how I love Amber Rose ! Her style just compliments her & also inspires me on some outfit ideas. She can pull anything off & I love how she blends her color choices. Her shoe game is also on point.

Whats your perfect everyday shoe?
I love me a pair of tennis shoes, mainly Keds or Converses. I find them fashionable and also comfortable. But when push comes to shove I love a nice pair of wedges to show off my lean long legs.

What fashion trend do you think is overrated?
I think leggings are an overrated trend. It's something that's cool for a once in a while thing, but I soooo don't think it's an everyday thing. Don't get me wrong leggings compliment a nice pair of shoes and a fashionable top, but it's not a crime to switch it up sometimes.

What will you rock on a night out with the girls
Blazers are my best friend ! An outfit can be an outfit, add a blazer and you have a masterpiece. I would have a cami on with a blazer, skinny jeans and a pair of pumps.

What do you consider as fashion no-no's?

Matching colors too much and not blending
This is something that my eye's hate to see, when clothes are matched too much it takes off the purpose of wearing the outfit. Blending in my eyes will catch my attention in a positive way, than a person in all one color.

Stocking with open toed shoes
One word, TACKY. Why on earth would you do that to yourself ? It makes no sense at all. You either want to show your toes or you don't. Pick one please.

Colored bras under see-through shirts
This to me is a sign of attention, sometimes it may work with black on black. But a white shirt and a pink bra for example is a cry for attention.

Ugg boots
I think this is totally overrated and over-hyped. I'm not against Ugg boots. But Ugg's are for one season and one season only, that would be winter. Now-a-days you see Ugg's being worn all 4 seasons which is a no no, simply because its way to hot to be wearing fur on your feet.

Visible pantie-lines
Visible pantie-lines are a cry for help. No one wants to see how big your underwear are. It's disgusting to the eyes and the public. Just don't do it.

Whats your best fashion advice.?
The best fashion advice I can give is not to follow the trends, try making your own trend and watch it turn into fashion and remember blazers are your best friend.
